I am a Senior animation student at University of the Arts. I love drawing, Film and Art history and animation. This blog was for my Junior Piece "JOYRIDE" and the process of making my first short. But my cat and I decided that I should develop it into something more. Now it is my own personal art blog for daily sketches and the development of my senior piece. The piece is about a young girl making bad decisions when left to her own devices but who doesn't make doesn't make crazy decisions when their younger? While we watch her make a colorful mess I will be posting constant progress and thoughts of the experience.
This piece is about a girl named Vanessa, Vanessa is a spirited adventurous brave and sometimes rebellious wild child who gets left home alone for the first time. With mom away she is having great fun breaking all the rules. Then she crosses the line while trying to rush into adulthood and she gets in over her head. Will she be able to fix it all before mom comes back or will this experience earn her a grounding? I guess we will have to find out.
This piece was inspired by my experiences in college and a recent visit to my extended family. I was playing with my little cousin and we had so much fun. I saw so much of myself in her I thought to myself that I wanted to bridge the gap between mischievous child and mischievous college student. Both stages in life involve making mistakes and learning from new experiences and viewing the world as a colorfully and sometimes scary unknown place. I thought it would be very fun to make a story that involves a young girl exploring boundaries and going to far. When Vanessa disobeys her mother's house rules she goes on a unexpected, fantastic and unwanted "JOYRIDE".

As I begin working on my junior piece I face the constant struggle of correctly forming my ideal finished look. Production has just started and I am constantly looking back at the films that inspire me in both their modern style, use of color and movement.
